PHRASES AND PREPOSITION



PHRASES

Phrases is a group of word which contains neither a subject nor a verb .
Kinds Of Phrases :
1.      Prepositional Phrases
Form                : Began with a preposition and ended with a noun
Function          : As Adverb ( Verb )
                          As Adjectives ( Noun )
Example          : In the yard
                          In the garden
                          On the radio
                          In this class
Example in sentences : As Adverb
Ø  There are three children in the yard
Ø  In this garden there are many strawberries
Ø  She  sleeps under the warm blanket
Example in sentences : As Adjectives
Ø  The book of grammar is my book
Ø  The man on the radio has a boring voice
Ø  The students  in this class are clever

2.      Infinitive Pharases
Form                : Begun with to Infinitive ( V1 )
Function          : As noun , As Adjective , As Adverb
Example          : To fly , to make , to take , to offer , to win , to see , to help , to give ,           to go 
Example As Noun ( Subject )
·         To get  the succes is my dream
·         To use  the uniform is their obigation
Example As Noun ( Object )
·         She hates to play with a bad boy
·         My teacher seems to enjoy the breakfast
·         I’m interested to study English
Example As Adjective
·         I have no money to pay it
·         I dont have plan to go anywhere in this weekend
·         He has no quality to depend me
Example As Adverb
·         To come to campus on time, you maybe ready now
·         To be my boyfriend, you must be a clever man
·         To get a title, I must study hard

3.      Participial Phrases
Form                : Begun with a participle phrases
Function          : Present Participle As Adjective ( V-ing )
                          Past Participle ( ed )
Example          : Present partiple : (singing,analyzing,sharpening,sneezing)
                          Past participle   : (believed,bellowed,hidden,interested)
Example in the sentences :
            Present Participal Phrase
Ø  The man singing in Auditorium is my friend
Ø  The woman writing on the blackboard is my teacher
Ø  The man standing in front of the door is Fery

Past Participle Phrase
Ø  The problem spoken by my teacher is interesting
Ø  The boy respected by many girls is my brother
Ø  The woman interested of cooking is my mother
4.      Gerund Phrases
Form                : Begun with a gerund phrases = Present participle ( V-ing )
Function          : As noun
Example          :
                  Noun As Subject
Ø  Reading romance novel  is favorite hobby in my town.
Ø  Analyzing the paper is my hobby
Ø  Writing poems is my sister’s hobby
                  Noun As Object
Ø  Yohana likes listening to Korean songs
Ø  They go camping together on weekend
Ø  They want suprising you
                  Noun As Subjective Complement         
Ø  Dhea’s hobby is wacthing cartoons
Ø  My hobby is fishing in the river
Ø  What I really like is travelling to other countries
                  Noun As Object of Preposition
Ø  She is tired of playing foot ball
Ø  Syahrini is fond of collecting coins
Ø  She is bored of  doing exercises


PREPOSITION
Preposition is a word used to show the relation of a noun or pronoun to some other word  in a sentence.
Kinds of Preposition :
